Good decision making is a vital key in playing good Magic. We want to analyze every situation and make the best play possible. This is a very difficult task especially for beginners because of 2 main factors.

People always come up to me and ask for limited advice or more specifically, how to get better at limited, and I always end up just giving them some random advice on how to draft the format. It's not that I don't want to share information or knowledge, it's just that I really don't have an idea how I got "better" in the first place.

Having a game plan is something that is often overlooked by most players. Players tend to play the game as the cards come. As a result, they blindly play every card that they draw immediately and rely on topdecks to feed them the card that they need for any given situation. As we all know, relying on luck is not a very good plan, but why do we keep counting on it? How far do you think you would go if you do not need luck on your side? Sadly, we cannot eliminate the luck factor, but we can play in such a way that we would not need to depend on it so much.

It has been quite a while since I wrote something here, and now I am back, thanks to Ogie Jaro. Yes, Ogie had some indirect influence in this article. I was reading his Filipino Field Journal and saw his disclaimer about it not being a strategy column but one for entertainment purposes only. After the bad beating that the Japanese handed to us last Grand Prix, I think that the country actually needs a strategy column for it to produce better players or at least to shed some light for those who have no time to practice anymore.

I've received a few comments regarding my last article, mostly on how it didn't focus too much on the strategy aspect of the game. I would like to clarify that this series isn't centered around strategy but is more of a casual blog. I don't have the time needed to research and fine tune articles geared towards teaching people how to better play the game. I'm here only for the purpose of entertainment, although I must admit I'm not that entertaining in the first place...

I did not have high hopes for this year's nationals. The fact that Worlds is going to be held in Memphis sucked out all the excitement as I wanted to play in Japan or some country in Europe. I was therefore leaning towards not playing but decided that playing Magic at a high level and hanging out with Team WTF, Team BT and other long time members of the community was a worthwhile way to spend the weekend.
