Modern-day drafters; specially those who practice at MTGO, seem to have learned the art of balancing the rare-draft and decent deck drafting/construction. Most people also still find in them the strength to resist taking the money rare over a good playable card when playing in high-level events; which is a good indication that our drafters still have enough discipline in them to go for the bigger prize.
last nats, there was a 4th pick maelstrom pulse in my first pod and 14th pick progenitus in the second, kung di pa ba naman discipline yun

problem kasi sa rare pool drafts, it won't necessarily reflect real high rel events where people still pick the money rares, it would not be unusual for someone to take say a dual land, pass you a mind control, then move into UW fliers, di lang sa pinoy yun, i've had experiences where even japanese and european players took a money rare over something mid playable, giving me mixed signals during the draft
kung gusto mo parin ipractice not taking the money rare, then you can consciously choose to do so on MTGO 8-4, but don't be surprised if your winning percentage doesn't improve dramatically
btw, nice article butch, keep them coming
